Business Administration | Practice-integrated study

In the practice-integrated Business Administration course, you will study at Ostfalia University and do work terms at Volkswagen Group Services, independently solving business problems on a scientific basis.

Curriculum – Business Administration

  1. 1

    Semesters 1-3

    Students have the option to attend introductory sessions in mathematics and computer skills at Ostfalia in preparation for the first semester.

    On-boarding days together with all apprentices and students of the same year will take place at the company at the beginning of September.

    You will follow the basic studies at Ostfalia in Wolfsburg from the first to third semesters. During this phase, you will attend the following lectures: functions of business administration, computer science, investment and financing, mathematics and statistics for economists, methodological competence, microeconomics, accounting, law, business English.

    During the holidays in between semesters, you will get to know different departments of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH. With the support of your training officer, you will be able to handle higher-level tasks and projects through which you will become familiar with our structures and processes.

  2. 2

    Semesters 4-5

    Your placement year takes place during the fourth and fifth semesters. You will not attend any lectures at Ostfalia during this phase, but will instead work continuously in various departments within the company. For two semesters, you will get a comprehensive look into the central and operational departments of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH.

    During the placement year, you will have the opportunity to apply for an internship abroad. The internship abroad will take place at one of the operational sites of Volkswagen Group Services outside of Germany for a period eight weeks. You will have the opportunity to run a foreign project independently and work on your intercultural skills.

    In addition, there is a broad range of social projects that you can carry out together with other students and apprentices, such as work at the memorial site in Auschwitz or the ‘Changing Sides’ project with Lebenshilfe, a non-profit organisation.

    Semester 6-7

    In the sixth and seventh semesters you deepen your basic knowledge. Here you will attend lectures on the following modules, among others:  Private Business Law, Business Methods, Automotive Marketing and Sales, Controlling Instruments, Financial Management, Organisational and Human Resources Development, Enterprise Information Systems and E-Commerce, Trade Marketing and Trade Management as well as International Sales Management.

    Practical periods in the company take place during the lecture-free period.

  4. 4

    Semester 8

    In the eighth semester, you will write your Bachelor’s thesis in cooperation with your work department. The topic of your Bachelor’s thesis will be currently relevant to the company. In principle, you will be accepted into this division after you graduate.

    After submitting your Bachelor’s thesis and successfully defending it, you will receive the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

  • a university entrance qualification
  • you find business topics such as marketing, human resources or controlling very interesting and exciting
  • you enjoy dealing with people and have excellent communication skills
  • fun and motivation are part of your everyday routine
  • you’re interested in working in new areas and you enjoy doing what it takes to solve problems
