Business Administration | Practice-integrated study

In the practice-integrated Business Administration course, I will study at Ostfalia University and do work terms at Volkswagen Group Services, independently solving business problems on a scientific basis.

Curriculum – Business Administration

  1. 1

    Semesters 1-3

    Students have the option to attend introductory sessions in mathematics and computer skills at Ostfalia in preparation for the first semester.

    On-boarding days together with all apprentices and students of the same year will take place at the company at the beginning of September.

    You will follow the basic studies at Ostfalia in Wolfsburg from the first to third semesters. During this phase, you will attend the following lectures: functions of business administration, computer science, investment and financing, mathematics and statistics for economists, methodological competence, microeconomics, accounting, law, business English.

    During the holidays in between semesters, you will get to know different departments of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH. With the support of your training officer, you will be able to handle higher-level tasks and projects through which you will become familiar with our structures and processes.

  2. 2

    Semesters 4-5

    Your placement year takes place during the fourth and fifth semesters. You will not attend any lectures at Ostfalia during this phase, but will instead work continuously in various departments within the company. For two semesters, you will get a comprehensive look into the central and operational departments of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH.

    During the placement year, you will have the opportunity to apply for an internship abroad. The internship abroad will take place at one of the operational sites of Volkswagen Group Services outside of Germany for a period eight weeks. You will have the opportunity to run a foreign project independently and work on your intercultural skills.

    In addition, there is a broad range of social projects that you can carry out together with other students and apprentices, such as work at the memorial site in Auschwitz or the ‘Changing Sides’ project with Lebenshilfe, a non-profit organisation.

  3. 3

    Semester 6-7

    In the sixth and seventh semesters you deepen your basic knowledge. Here you will attend lectures on the following modules, among others:  Private Business Law, Business Methods, Automotive Marketing and Sales, Controlling Instruments, Financial Management, Organisational and Human Resources Development, Enterprise Information Systems and E-Commerce, Trade Marketing and Trade Management as well as International Sales Management.

    Practical periods in the company take place during the lecture-free period.

  4. 4

    Semester 8

    In the eighth semester, you will write your Bachelor’s thesis in cooperation with your work department. The topic of your Bachelor’s thesis will be currently relevant to the company. In principle, you will be accepted into this division after you graduate.

    After submitting your Bachelor’s thesis and successfully defending it, you will receive the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

  • enthusiasm for economics, cars and the subject of mobility
  • commitment, a sense of initiative, and mobility

Logistics Management | Practice-integrated study

In the practice-integrated Logistics Management course, I will get to know the Transport/Traffic/Logistics departments. I will also acquire skills in general business administration, law and foreign languages. In addition to this content, soft skills such as moderation and presentation techniques will be further developed.

Curriculum - Logistics Management studies

  1. 1

    First academic year

    On-boarding weeks together with all apprentices and students of the same year.

    In the basic studies, you will learn the fundamentals of mathematics and statistics, computer science, business and economics, bookkeeping and balancing, procurement, production, Marketing, cost accounting, financing, investment and taxation, transport industry and commercial law.

  2. 2

    Second academic year

    The third semester is a working semester at Volkswagen Group Services GmbH. You will get to know your colleagues even better and apply your new skills on practical cases.

    In the fourth semester, you will complete the basic studies with subjects such as financing, investment and taxation, transport industry, commercial law, transport business administration, transport technology and commodities management.

  3. 3

    Third academic year

    The main studies begin with basic and major subjects in the selected course of study such as logistics methods, internal logistics, external logistics, fundamentals of passenger transport, inventory management and a practical logistics project.

    In the sixth semester, you will do the second work term at the company.

  4. 4

    Fourth academic year

    The seventh and eighth semesters in the fourth academic year will cover marketing management, risk management and controlling, and business management.

    Compulsory elective modules will also be offered (individual specialisation).

  5. 5

    Fifth academic year (Bachelor’s thesis)

    In the ninth semester, you will write your Bachelor’s thesis. Before that, you will demonstrate your capabilities on a work project.
